Lower Cascade Falls Trail | Uncompahgre National Forest
Ouray, CO | 08/02/19 | 0.52 miles | 209′ gain
Before heading home from our trip to Ouray, we wanted to hike to one of the waterfalls just outside town. There are a number to choose from, but we ultimately decided to visit the Lower Cascade Falls, and we were not disappointed.
The hike is short and sweet, perfect for an easy day. The falls are visible from a lower overlook, but we wanted to get closer, so we followed the Ouray Perimeter Trail up a short ways to the upper overlook.
The Lower Cascade Falls is the 7th in a series of waterfalls which can be reached via the Upper Cascade Falls Trail. I guess that just means we’ll have to come back another time!

It was definitely a little scary! But the ledge was pretty wide so I never felt unsafe. (I wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t feel comfortable!) Thanks for reading! 🙂

If you’ve never hiked the entire Perimeter Trail, I recommend that too! Did it earlier this summer and it was really pretty!

I haven’t hiked ANY of it! (Except for the 0.1 mile or so to see the falls better.) I would love to go back and do it. So much to do, so little time..

I’ve been practicing LOL! There are a number of harder peaks I want to climb that have exposure like that, so I need to get used to it!

Never look down when you are on a ledge makes good sense. Correct?
